Bates and Ferri (2010) argue that entertainment is defined objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience from external stimulus, offers pleasure to the audience and occurs in a passive form. Additionally, it is noted that entertainment often hits on the points our brains were evolved to deeply react to in order to function within a social world; backstabbing and murders for example. It is therefore possible that what appears as entertainment, may in fact be a method of attaining perception or highbrow growth.
