Introduction
The Mitchellville
School
, a not-for-profit, private/independent school, provides a K-6, co-educational instructional program that promotes positive self-concept and character development in children.
The Mitchellville School
offers highly individualized, rigorous, year-round, innovative studies for students who can benefit from such a program. Its uncommonly excellent teachers
nurture the development of the whole child, respect individual differences, and instill in children a love for learning during the early years.
The Mitchellville School
is slated to be the only independent, year-round, mathematics, science, and technology-focused school in the metropolitan area or region.
Through its partnership with the Mitchellville Community School of the Arts
(MCSA), its students develop a natural appreciation for the arts. The
MCSA provides weekly art/music class instruction and after-school, onsite, private individual/group instrumental music and band instruction.
Brenda J. Travis conceived the concept of The Mitchellville School . Ms. Travis received her M.S. and B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was employed in the field of education for nearly thirteen (13) years and has worked in four large school districts (Cumberland County Schools in NC, Prince George's County Public Schools in MD, District of Columbia, and Fairfax County Public Schools in VA). From 1988-1995, she held several educational positions (including Assistant Principal and Principal) in one of the nation's most successful school systems, Fairfax County Public Schools. Since 1995, Ms. Travis has worked in private industry and held numerous senior management positions. In addition to working full-time, she is an adjunct faculty member at Prince George's Community College and actively involved in her community. Ms. Travis combined her experience in education and business to create The Mitchellville School concept. The School Plan is the result of her extensive research and commitment to setting the standard for academic excellence in Prince George’s County. Setting the Standard for Academic Excellence |
